Published in Hardcover by Mosby (15 June, 1998)
Authors: Elliott Middleton, Adkinson, Main, and Elliot F. Ellis
Average review score:

A must have book for allergists
A reference book for allergists and anyone training or practicing as an allergy-immunology subspecialist. It is an extensive and comprehensive review of allergic diseases. I found specially useful the tables and boxes which summarizes the very essential in one shot. It includes practical applications for daily practice problems. One con: It comes very short on drug allergy.

American Catholics: A History of the Roman Catholic Community in the United States
Published in Paperback by Oxford Univ Pr on Demand (March, 1983)
Authors: James J. Hennesey and John T. Ellis
Average review score:

A good overview of Catholic in the U.S
I am taking a course in church history and this is the book we are currently using. I find that the text gives a good view of what catholic have had to face here in the US. It begins in Colonial times and goes into the 20th century (the book was written in 1981).

However, alot of topics are given a brief look with some names and dates mentioned, but no real detail. This makes the book boring at times and it would really be bad if my instructer didn't explain things more in class. This is a real good glance at the Church and I would recommend it along with a book that gives much more detail. The American Catholic Experience by jay Nolan would be a good bet.

American Political Cultures
Published in Paperback by Oxford University Press (September, 1996)
Author: Richard J. Ellis
Average review score:

American Political Cultures
Richard Ellis presents a wide-sweeping view of America's political cultures. It is an important work for scholars, but its usefulness has been diminished by its bibilographic approach. Placement of the notes at the end of the book and the lack of a bibliography detract from an otherwide interesting work.

Ask Albert Ellis: Straight Answers and Sound Advice from America's Best-Known Psychologist
Published in Paperback by Impact Publishers, Inc. (June, 2003)
Author: Albert Ellis
Average review score:

Perception is reality -- change how you react!
When you're trying to change self-defeating attitudes, touchy-feely affirmations or so-called quick fixes aren't likely to add up to lasting change. Ellis is refreshingly up-front about identifying crippling thought patterns for what they are -- nutty ideas -- and cutting straight to the practical steps you can take to begin changing the way you respond to personal adversities. Using an A-B-C structure that's meant to stick readily in your mind, he demonstrates how you can make a situation better or worse depending on how you think, feel, and behave toward it. Point 'A' is a negative event. Point 'B' is your belief system or philosophy of what happens at 'A' (can be rational or irrational). Point 'C' is the consequences you create as a result of 'A' and 'B.' Shifting your perspective to produce an assertive, healthy, disturbance-busting result requires a conscious effort. Ellis's method is a cognitive *process* -- which means you need to incorporate it into your daily life, like a healthy diet and exercise, for long-term benefits. Yes, it takes some time to work at refusing to stress yourself out needlessly over upsets and challenges, but the steps outlined are easy to understand and based on common sense.

The book is as reader-friendly as it gets. Ellis pioneered this mode of therapy decades ago, but doesn't rest on the confidence he's earned with its proven track record. I thoroughly enjoyed the way he keeps it fresh and relevant with timely examples and updated insights, maintaining a gung-ho attitude about it that's entertaining and contagious. I couldn't help wanting to give his sensible suggestions a try. The collection of FAQs from his "Ask Dr. Ellis" Web Site covers a lot of ground, from broad, existential queries about attaining happiness to questions about coping with specific kinds of emotional suffering: anger, anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. His responses are warm and down-to-earth, blending clear explanations with no-nonsense motivation. This is a handy resource for general readers and professional therapists looking for reliable, pro-active ways to counteract irrational beliefs and dysfunctional behavior.

ellis can't lose
I've recently become a huge fan of Warren Ellis' work. Starting with Planetary , then the Authority and Stormwatch. I've also read his columns on his website, warrenellis.com.

If you like Ellis you will enjoy this book. It contains pictures he took with his PDA and text to accompany the pictures. Some of it seems autobiographical, other passages are clearly fiction.

I think one of the things that makes Ellis great is that he has good taste and can edit himself. So, the text is sometimes touching, sometimes disturbing, sometimes mearly clever, but almost always interesting.

Bad World
Published in Paperback by Avatar Press (August, 2002)
Authors: Warren Ellis and Jacen Burrows
Average review score:

Disturbing Stuff From A Disturbed Mind....
Bad World came as something of a surprise to me. I was expecting a more traditional story; What Writer Warren Ellis delivers is an extended essay/monologue about various and sundry disturbed and disturbing individuals Ellis has (Supposedly) found through the internet. The reader is bombarded with literally dozens of bizarre stories, each more outlandish and horrific than the last, including, but not limited to, Alien Abduction, Cannibalism, Necrophilia, Beastiality, weird Presidential candidates, etc. The art, by Jacen Burrows, is ok; nothing exceptional, but the single-page illustrations and double-page spreads do a decent job of conveying Ellis' ideas. Are the stories you'll encounter in Bad World true? Who knows. In the end, does it really matter? Ellis does a great job of stringing them together, and if you have a high tolerance for disturbing subject matter, you'll probably enjoy Bad World.

The Benediction of Brother Cadfael
Published in Hardcover by Mysterious Press (November, 1992)
Authors: Ellis Peters and Rob Talbot
Average review score:

A wonderful coffee-table book about your favorite monk.
"The Benediction of Brother Cadfael" is a wonderful introduction for anyone unfamiliar with the murder-solving "Brother Herbalist" of the Benedictine Abbey of St. Peter and St. Paul in Shrewsbury. It also makes a wonderful gift for those already in love with the good brother.

This oversized volume contains the complete text of the first two "Brother Cadfael" novels, seperated by a lovely illustrated section discussing medieval Benedictine life, Shrewsbury, the Welsh border, St. Winifrid, the Abbey (which is still in existence) and other items of interest.

Enjoy this wonderful book. A solid four stars.
